News & Information
Fedde is proud to be hosting another multi-artist residency this year. Our artists will be working with Fedde students from February 9th - 12th, teaching them about the values, culture, and artistic expressions of West Africa. Last year, our students enjoyed their time playing the djembe (jem-bay) and learning some cool tribal dance moves. We're excited to see what new things we'll learn this year.
Fedde's own "Slime Boy" video wins in the ABC Unified H1N1 contest. In the Middle School division, the Slime Boy video took first place in best overall video for all middle schools. Mr. Laird and the FTV crew were delighted with the announcement. Would you like to see the video? Click on the Slime Boy below:

"Slime Boy" wins award

And the Winner Is...
How many of us can say, “I published a book!” This year, the entire 8th grade student body had an opportunity to say just that after publishing their own books through their Spanish classes. As part of their Spanish class instruction, students learned about the publishing process anchored on their Spanish lessons. This project was a collaborative effort between the students and teachers.
The theme of the book was “Quien Soy Yo?” or “Who Am I?” Fedde students had the opportunity to not only write their own books but illustrate them as well. The book included eight topics: an introduction, family origin, family hobbies, likes and dislikes, friends, role models, careers, and poetry. Mrs. Angela Fernandez, Mrs. Daisy Chung, and Mr. Sergio Origel guided the students through rough drafts, edits, final drafts, and publishing tips.
This was such an amazing accomplishment that the Spanish department decided to host Fedde Academy’s 1st Annual Literacy Oscars as a way to celebrate Fedde’s young published authors. The event was held on Friday, January 22nd. Despite the inclement weather, Fedde’s multi-purpose room was filled to capacity. Amongst students, parents, teachers, and administration, Hawaiian Gardens’ Mayor Victor Farfan and City Council member Michael Gomez were in attendance.
Every student received a certificate of participation along with their published book. A further highlight was that nominees for Best Illustrator, Best Writer, and Best Overall Author were announced – “Oscars” style. Mayor Farfan and Councilman Gomez presented the awards to the winners in each category. After the ceremonies, students gathered the books to share with their families. And, of course, what’s an Oscar party without cake and champagne (actually it was sparkling cider)? Fedde’s latest authors celebrated their achievement as true celebrities. Congratulations to all who participated.
